Types of Divorces We Handle

Basic information for different kinds divorces

Divorces with No Children

The simplest type of divorce.

This divorce can be completed for $1300 plus GST if both parties are co-operative. This price includes all of the basic paperwork. We prepare and file all documents with the Court at your direction. No Court appearances are required by the parties in almost all cases. There may be additional charges if we must obtain Court Orders to serve the other party or there are allegations of adultery.

Divorces With Children

Requires extra court filings for child support

The standard cost of a divorce with children is $1,600 plus GST. This includes the preparation and filing of all documents related to your divorce. Our price includes the cost of filing the divorce. There may an extra cost to serve your former spouse, but if they come to one of our offices we we will serve them at no charge

Foreign Divorces

When one of the parties does not live in Canada

If one of the parties does not live in Canada, the divorce process is much more complicated. We must obtain permission from the Court to serve the other party outside of Canada. This is called an Order for Service Ex Juris. We are experts in this process and handle between 50 and 60 cases each year where one of the parties lives in a foreign country. The cost of obtaining a foreign divorce is $1800 plus GST. This includes the extra cost to obtain the Ex Juris Order and other possible complications related to these types of cases.

Some situations are out of the normal

There are many variations of the divorce process. Some involve same sex marriages, some involve gender realignment, while still others have complications. Some of these complications are other divorces that have been filed, situations where you can't find the other party, and many others. Sometimes, one of the parties files a divorce and needs help to complete the process. We are here to help. Some of these situations don't involve any extra time, so we don't charge extra. Some times there is extra work on our part, and we will charge you additional fees. We will always disclose the potential extra charges up front so there are no suprises at the end of the process.
